Once you’ve created the opening with a compelling vision for your people, you must provide them with the necessary tools to make your vision happen. If you don’t, they’ll be frustrated. It’s debilitating for them. It’s akin to giving someone a set of blueprints to build you a house and then not providing the material and tools necessary to complete the project.
You must provide the resources – the training, technology, people and just as importantly – your personal time and attention. Of this list, the tool that costs very little yet can have the most positive impact is the time and attention you provide your people.
Are you providing your people with the necessary tools to help them do what you want them to do? Do you have the personal time and attention to give them? If you don’t have the time … and most leaders don’t … take heart, help is on the way. In our next session, I’ll teach you the ultimate time management tool to improve your time capacity and help you determine if being a boss is the right role for you.
To prepare yourself, I want you to write down a list of all the business-related activities that you find yourself doing on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Do not rush this. Be detailed … don’t just write “planning” … write down all the things that you do related to planning. Write them all down. You should have a long list of activities.
